Akilah Anderson
Akilah is a specialist litigator with over 13 years’ experience at the Bar. She maintains a mixed practice with a progressive focus over the last six years on civil and commercial law, the latter with an emphasis on corporate insolvency and commercial litigation.
Prior to establishing HP Anderson, Akilah practised with a leading law firm in the BVI where she acted as external counsel for a number of onshore corporate clients; and routinely advised offshore clients on shareholder disputes, cross border litigation, BVI company law and both contentious and non-contentious liquidation proceedings. Before that, she spent a number of years in general practice in one of Jamaica’s most successful litigation firms. A selection of matters that she has been involved with is found here.
In 2016, Akilah was recognised by IFLR1000 as a “rising star” as a result of her growing body of work in banking and restructuring. She has been described as a “sharp legal mind” and has been credited for the quality of her submissions to the BVI Commercial Court.
In addition to her extensive litigation experience, Akilah also acts in routine corporate matters and has postgraduate qualifications in corporate governance, compliance and risk management.
Akilah is a member of the BVI Bar Association.
She is admitted to practice in the British Virgin Islands, Jamaica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines; and Antigua and Barbuda. She is also admitted in England and Wales as a barrister (non-practising).
